There’s a massive high pressure system coming over from the bite hitting Victoria from Friday onwards. With this the Barometer is sitting up nice and high and very stable “1020 fish are plenty” as my grandpa used to say.
With light winds, plenty of sunshine this coming weekend is shaping up to be a good one. Hope to see you all down at Venus Bay to enjoy the best of mother nature.

I know!! The year has flown by, its getting to that time of year again when we need to start dusting off the gear for what experts are saying will be a bumper snapper season due to all of the nutrients washing down with the heavy rains we have had.
Luckily, here at Venus Bay Fishing Beach Surf, we have done all the work for you and put together some amazing combo’s that will hold up to the punishment of the season to come.
Over the weekend just gone there where some nice fish getting caught, this estuary perch caught by local fisherman Craig was pulled from the Tarwin river rock wall on a small hard body lure, just another example of the great winter fishing down here.
Along with this, there where schools of salmon swimming up and down the surf beaches Friday getting caught on blue bait and metal lures – this got many of the local fishermen excited as there was a fishing competition on Saturday between Venus bay angling club and Hampton park angling club.
Unfortunately, as we all know, fishing can be a frustrating game sometimes and in true comp form by the start of the competition on Saturday the fish decided they where not hungry anymore due to what I suspect was a drop in biometric pressure. Unlucky that you got this beautiful perch the night before the comp started Craig!
It was a slow weekend on the catching front, but those who put the time in came up with some results.
Squid down at the walkerville south boat ramp where caught in good numbers on sat on the high tide using bright squid jigs over the weed beds. Nothing beats a good feed of fresh calamari. They should be there for a few weeks so get down and have some fun.
The sun is out and the fish are bitting down here at Venus Bay.
A snap change in the weather this week has brought on some amazing salmon fishing off all 5 beaches – 3 kg plus schools are cruising up an down the sunny shores. lures and/or blue bait has been producing some massive trophy fish, now is as good a time as any to catch that winter salmon of a lifetime.
At sunset and into the darkness gummys up to and exceeding 10kg have been getting pulled off an amazing gutter at beach 1, use fresh salmon fillets and plenty of berly to catch a feed.
Come and visit us in the Venus Bay tackle shop for all the correct advice to get you on the water and catching these wonderful species.
Better hurry, the week of unreal weather wont be here forever.
A beautiful gutter has formed near the walkway at beach one over the past few weeks. It has been producing some great salmon on blue bait and pilchards – but for the best results 25 – 40 gram metal lures have been producing good 1 -2 kg fish in good numbers.
The best time to target them as proven to be 3 hours either side of the high tide – with more action occurring near dawn and dusk.
Come visit me in store for all your beach fishing needs and get onto a big one.
